Without an enemy you cannot practice tolerance, and without tolerance you cannot build a sound basis of compassion. ~So in order to practice compassion, you should have an enemy – His Holines The Dalai Lamafrom the Book ” How To Practise ” – The Way to A Meaningful life.
I am slowly reading this book when I get a seat on the London Underground on my way to work and back. I don’t always get a seat..
What a statement!
Without an enemy you cannot practice tolerance, and without tolerance you cannot build a sound basis of compassion. ~So in order to practice compassion, you should have an enemy. – His Holines The Dalai Lama
How much wisdom and inner strength does it take to understand these words. It may take us a little while to get to this conclusion in life, but I am sure we will one day.
The point of this post is simple, build within yourself such wisdom that you can see your enemies ,will enable you to become best version of yourself. When we see life as test paper, that there is benefit in everything and all difficulties are learning opportunites then life becomes sweet, and we become wise.
I cannot change another, I can only change myself.
Our thoughts and feelings, or outlook and perspective make us happy or sad. We can only change ourself and not another. We can be compassionate and even that can be rejected, but for our goodness we are compassionate anyway.
Without an enemy you cannot practice tolerance, and without tolerance you cannot build a sound basis of compassion. ~So in order to practice compassion, you should have an enemy. – His Holines The Dalai Lama

Looking at it in a positive light we do learn a lot from them. If a person wants to grow we would learn compassion, forgiveness and self confidence plus many more valuable traits. Great post and perspective Bella.

There are many kinds of people, some good and some bad. I think we learn lessons from everyone. 🙂

It’s like anything in life and as you said it’s all about perspective. Im sure that it there was no such thing as death we wouldn’t value the gift of life as much as we do.
I have learnt a lot from the not so nice people I have come across in life and it makes me appreciate the kind people a whole lot more 😊
