What is Kanban Board?
Kanban is a simple project management tool from Japan. It is a very visual way of moving projects forward. Learn more about the Kanban from the wiki page here. A kanban board can be used for any project, be it a work /career project or a personal project.
Below is a video of a Kanban board in a work setting. But, I also include a video of it used in personal setting.
How I Use The Kanban Board
We all know how to set goals (if not read here). We all make some progress on some goals, we achieve some goals or we get stuck on other goals.
In my line of work I have worked with waterfall and agile project management tools. Which I am proficient in using and am successful in delivering results. In fact I am quite good at achieving my goals in general, but sometime in achieving my personal goals I need a bit of help.
I think work goals, career goals, study goals are easier to achieve, because you have too. But, personal goals well that is all up to you. And, if you can’t get motivated then you find it hard to achieve your goals. So, how do you find motivations to achieve your personal goals?
Use the Kanban Board to Achieve your Goals
I recently watched a youtube video created by an Indie writer on the topic of the Kanban board. I decided to try it. The youtuber uses the Kanban board to achieve her writing goals and personal goals.
When I tried the kanban board to I used it to achieve a mixture of personal goals, and I was really pleased with what I achieved. The Kanban method really made me excel at my personal goals. The kanban board is an indirect vision board, it is tactile, and in my humble opinion it really is a great way to make progress and review progress.
One important thing to note with a Kanban board, is you need a MASTER list of your Goals. And from that master list of Goals you need a set of baby steps Goals. It is from that master list of goals, and baby steps that you can create a Kanban board!
Here is the video I watched and used to set up my kanban board.
Here is a picture of my first simple kanban board created with what I have at home. If you don’t have space to have a physical board you can do it on pieces of paper in a notebook. I really hope you try it, it will really help you achieve your goals and dreams.

What an interesting concept. Love the idea of working in quarters and really prioritising our goals into specific time slots. Sounds like a great way of achieving things. Great share Bella.

It definitely helps to have a visual aid like that. I usually write it out on a piece of paper. But having a board like this seems like an even better motivator. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kim, have fun and do let me know if you have any questions. It is my new method of achieving goals. I do simple things like finish reading book by, and I say to myself read 100 pages a week as my mini goal and I use the kanban board. It meant I finished reading’ becoming’. For me that is a big deal as I am such a slow reader. It also meant I finished other goals through baby steps, goals that I would procrastinate on. It works is the point and I love it .
