5 Positive Daily Habits to Cultivate in 2020

What is a Habit?

Habits are what we repeated do.

Habit can be either good or bad.

Habits are easily created.

That is why bad habits are so easy to create.

Similarly good habits are easy to create, after all a habit is what we repeated do.  So a good habit is easy to instil in our life.

When we implement habits and follow them daily, we instil in ourselves an indirect motivation and happiness.

A small step taken daily will create good habits, which will manifest in our life over time.  We may not see the impact of these daily habits immediately.  However, they will most definitely be visible in our life in weeks and months to come.  These changes will make us a happier person overall.

How to be Successful in our Habits.

Consistency is key when creating habits.   Habits are simple and easy to create.  All a habit is, is something we repeated do.   We don’t have to spend lots of time on a habit we just need to spend a little bit of time daily on habits.

When can you start a habit?

You can start a habit at any time.  You can start it today even.   You don’t have to wait for the New Year.   If you want to change something in your life do it now!

How long does it take for it to become a Habit?

We are all individuals and it will take a different amount of time for each person to create a new habit.   I personally think it takes from 60 days to 90 days to create the foundation of a new habit.  A habit should be sometime you do for life, not just for a short period of time.   Good habits make a difference in our life over time, therefore expecting a habit change your life in 21 – 30 days is in my humble opinion unrealistic.  For me personally, 3 months to a year is what it takes for me to make a habit stick and become a way of life.

5 Positive Daily Habits to Cultivate in 2020

Here is a list of a few habits you could apply in your life in 2020, or better still you can start them today.

  1. Reduce your time on your Mobile Phone
  2. Meditate daily for a few minutes
  3. Write 5 things you are grateful for daily
  4. Write affirmations daily
  5. Create a good Morning and Evening Routine

The sections below explain how you can implement these habits

1. Reduce your time on your Mobile Phone

We all are addicted to our phones.  I want to reduce the time I spend on my phone.   For Example, the habit I want to instil with regards to my phone is,  not to look at phone first thing in the morning or last thing at night.  To only look at it 3 times a day for 10 mins a time.  To limit time on social media.      Our mobile phones are distraction and we waste a lot of time on them.   Now of course, they are need for important task and even our jobs.   So the key is to get the balance right, use the phone for work task but don’t get distracted!

2.Meditate daily for a few minutes

Meditation brings daily calm to our life.  It makes us peaceful and allow us to gain focus.   At www.thoughtsnlifeblog.com. I share a weekly meditation that you can practise for a week, and then try a new one the next week.

I often share daily meditations too.  Just follow me at www.thoughtsnlifeblog.com and you will always find a meditation.   Or you can find me on facebook thoughtsnlifeblog facebook pag

The meditations I share are not created by myself.  But, they are meditation I use. If you are new to meditation, I suggest you try and meditate once a day.

3.Write 5 things you are GRATEFUL for daily

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into  enough and more.   It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.  Gratitude make sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.   – Melody Beattie

Gratitude allows you to see what you have.   When you write 5 things you are grateful for every day, you see the wonder in your life not the lack in your life.   Below are two links to previous blog post I have written on the subject of gratitude, these should help you figure out how you can implement and use this habit in your daily life.

4.Write affirmations daily

Affirmations are positive statements that start with β€œ I  Am…” .   When  written down and  repeated, they rewire our brain into a positive way of thinking.  Sometime, life gets too much and we feel very low.   Affirmations is a really great way of making yourself more positive. Here is an post I have written on Affirmations which will help you further – click here.

5.Create a good Morning and Evening Routine

Making Simple changes to Morning and Evening routines makes life easier and happier.  For example the saying goes β€œearly to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy wealthy and wise”.

Here is a link to a post that I wrote on β€œthe power of routines”, this post will help you with ideas of what habits, changes you can cultivate in your morning and evenings to make life happier and brighter  :  Click here for the post.
