Week 3 of Nonfiction November – The Rules
Stranger Than Fiction (November 14-18): This week we’re focusing on all the great nonfiction books that almost don’t seem real. A sports biography involving overcoming massive obstacles, a profile on a bizarre scam, a look into the natural wonders in our world—basically, if it makes your jaw drop, you can highlight it for this week’s topic. Educated by Tara Westover -Memoir

Educated was published in 2018 – not that long ago.
Reading it was a case of me reminding myself this a real story, this is a person’s life.
Because, frankly it was so hard to believe in the “2000” this could actually be a reality for someone.
I don’t want to give the story away.
Imagine being homeschooled – but not really having any education.
Not having a birth certificate until the age of 9.
Parents that were not keen on hospitals, to the point that they would treat serious illnesses and even life-threatening accidents at home.
Girls don’t need to be educated.
From effectively zero education to being able to get to Cambridge – intrigued me to read the book.
OMG, OMG, OMG, when I started to read it, the picture I had in my mind, of what the story might be! Well, I was extremely wrong. Honestly, you just can’t imagine – well I could not.
This is a memoir and not fiction – was the constant reminder to myself.
I wrote a blog post on Educated if you want to read my thoughts.

That is a good choice. I remember transcribing an interview with Westover for work and it was almost unbelievable even hearing her tell the story herself!

Wow this one sounds like such a wild, difficult read. Almost unbelievable, but unfortunately very, very true.
